EMPOWERING CHILDREN, FAMILIES & COMMUNITIES

Occupational Therapy at Buds N Caterpillars
“Occupation,” as understood by paediatric Occupational Therapists, is everything a child may do over the course of everyday life – those activities that occupy a child’s time. Buds N Caterpillars Therapists base their work on a framework of strengths, abilities, and client values while using day-to-day occupational activities as foundations for supporting the child’s health, well-being, self-care, productivity, and leisure.
Ours is a health profession that exists to empower children, youth, and their families to overcome challenges in everyday life so they can be who they want to be, living more fully.
Occupational Therapists
Buds N Caterpillars Therapies uses these and other methods to meet the needs of the children, youth, and families they works with:

Assessment
- Of the child/youth – discovering their strengths and areas of difficulty
- Of the environment – identifying supports and barriers to inclusion in daily life
Intervention
- With the child/youth – encouraging and supporting skill development and/or adaptations
- With the environment – working to ensure a good fit between the child and their environment
Task Analysis
- Investigating the fit between the child, the environment, and the task
- Breaking down task components to find the barriers to task performance
When to Consider Referring Your Child
You know your child better than anyone. If you answer yes to any of the following questions, your child may benefit from the services provided by Buds N Caterpillars Therapies:
- Does your child have difficulty managing their emotions, or do they respond in ways that seem disproportionate to the scenario?
- Does your child have difficulty sensing or understanding their relationship to the world around them?
- Does your child struggle with handwriting, printing or other tasks that require them to use their hands?
- Is your child having difficulty paying attention?
- Does your child seem rigid in their way of doing things, reacting negatively to new experiences?
- Is your child finding it difficult to play and interact with other children?
- Is your child easily distressed by sensory information: sounds, sights, taste, touch?
- Does your child seem clumsy in their movements?
- Does your child have difficulty organizing themselves in their environment (homework, work space)?
Don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re ready for a referral. And if you’re unsure, we’re always here to discuss your unique situation with you.
Occupational Therapy and Your Child
Buds N Caterpillars is here to help children do the things that are important to them, such as playing, learning at school, being part of their family and community, and gaining independence as they grow into adulthood. Specifically, we look at the child’s fine motor and gross motor skills, visual processing, sensory understanding, social and play skills, self regulation, and self-care.
