OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY, ASSESSMENT & OUTREACH

Services Available at Buds N Caterpillars Therapies

All services are initiated after an initial consultation with parents to identify the reason for referral and an overview of strengths and areas of difficulty. This helps focus on the assessment/treatment plan. If your child has had a recent assessment, we may be able to proceed with therapy services. If not, an initial assessment will be required. This will be followed by a report and/or discussion with parents and the child (depending on age and ability) with the findings of the assessment. Based on this and by mutual agreement of the parents and the Occupational Therapist, therapy sessions may be initiated. The duration and frequency of therapy sessions vary depending on the needs identified and available resources.

Where & When

Occupational Therapy services may be provided in the clinical therapy space, in homes, in schools, and in other community settings. The schedule for frequency and duration of sessions will be determined by the caregivers and therapist based on needs and resources available. A typical schedule consists of 45-minute sessions approximately every two weeks, but varies according to the needs of the client and the family schedule.

Parent/Guardian & Teacher Collaboration

Parents, Caregivers and Teachers have unique insights into how the child or youth is functioning in their environments. Therefore, a collaborative approach to developing goals, implementing strategies, promoting growth and development and developing supportive environments is important to successful outcomes. Ways in which we do this include:

  • Team meetings
  • Consultation with primary caregivers or teachers
  • Observations in school classrooms, or other environments
  • Occupational therapy service provision in alternative settings

Education & Outreach

An educated, engaged public can play a positive role in creating safe social spaces in which children can thrive. We’re passionate about providing these and other public outreach services:

  • Classroom teaching: teaching children about themselves and their classmates
  • School workshops for teachers or teacher assistants
  • Community information sessions
